Missing it now more than ever...

The Attic was my home away from home until last May 2007. I loved that store as much as my friend Jane, who owned it. Working there for almost 3 years, it never felt like a JOB. I was like a kid in a candy store..arranging furniture, creating vignettes, and wanting to take it all home! We also carried "new" home decor too, and it was always fun to order from the catalogues. It was always stuffed full! I can remember the owner calling every couple of days to ask, "Do you think we can fit another piece in?"

The Attic was located in Coronado, just a few blocks from the beautiful Pacific ocean. It had been a popular shoppe for nearly 10 years, and I always enjoyed chatting with the locals as much as I did the tourists, who came from all over the world. My favorite times of the year were the summer months and December. The annual Fourth of July parade looked like something straight out of a Norman Rockwell portrait. At Christmas time, all the shops would decorate the windows in hopes of winning 1st Prize for best window.

Sadly, the business was sold last May and I've missed it ever since. The new owners made some dramatic changes. New laminate flooring replaced the old cement floors and purple paint covered our serene beach palette. It's now a baby & kid's clothing shop. It's a cute shop, but the neighboring shops tell me that even after a year, the tourists still come by looking for The Attic. I'm not at all surprised. It was a landmark!

OH I AM GREIVING WITH YOU!!! My heart just aches when a really wonderful store goes away, we had this amazingly cheap antiques mall here in Port Orchard go out of business about 6 months ago, there was a big hole in my shopping heart! "Your" store looked like something fabulous, right out of a magazine! Hopefully you will find another place that will fill the gap...did you do the store display? That is some beautiful work!!!!

Have a pretty weekend!

Your song playing makes it even harder to say goodbye. Our downtown is losing many of it's great stores too. Iowa is such a conservative state, that when the media says it's bad, the people all retreat to the storm shelters. We are just hoping that our cheap rent, $350.00, will be able to pull us through these hard times...so we try the show cirquit again...wish us luck...s

How sad to see such a wonderful place close. :-(((( But so wonderful that you have such lovely photos -- it was fun to visit, and it would surely have been one of my favorite places to shop!

What a beautiful blog you have. This shop looks like my kind of store. It seems the best shops go out of business, too bad for us. I understand your longing for it!!

I miss it too Nanc, only you know how much.
One of the luckiest days for us was when I hired Nancy, who quickly became manager of The Attic. Her genuine kindness brought in Thank you cards and even gifts from grateful customers who were touched by her.
She made me feel good about myself. The Attic is gone but I still have my friend~ for always

Nancy, I love your blog! It's so good to see and remember the Attic and the beautiful friendships that have bloomed from that era. I just got off the phone with Jane-I agree! The Attic is a beautiful memory that should always be treasured. It was so much more to me than furniture (although the furniture in my home is so amazing!) I had a woman who offered to buy any and all of my attic furniture (No thank You!) Those pieces in my home are a wonderful reminder of that piece of heaven on the little island of Coronado. Thank you Attic gals! A special hello to you Nancy! God bless and take care! Love, Amber
